Overvoltage Phenomena in Low Voltage Network

Abstract
The paper describes the overvoltage phenomena in low voltage socket circuit. A surge waves travelling is analysed according to the origin of reflected waves at a different loads. The impact of the surge protective devices usage to the overvoltage elimination is described depending on their location. The measurement shows that the reflected voltage waves result to greater value of voltage impulse and greater stress of insulation systems of connected electric appliances. Connecting the surge protective devices to the circuit, overvoltages are markedly suppressed and the resultant voltage value is significantly below the maximum impulse withstand voltage for an equipment of impulse withstand category IV.
