Maximum Power Point Tracking of Fuel Cell Power System Using Fuzzy Logic Control

Abstract
Due to the nonlinear P-V characteristic of fuel cells, it is very important to implement a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control for practical applications,  because it maximizes the power output from a fuel cell system for a given set of conditions, and therefore maximizes their out power efficiency. This paper presents a fuzzy logic control (FLC) method for the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) of a fuel cell system under variable temperature and water content conditions. At first, the model of fuel cell, the perturbation and observation (P&O) technique is briefly introduced. A fuzzy logic control based MPPT is then proposed and is compared to the P&O MPPT based approach. The simulation results demonstrate the stability of the proposed control system and its robustness to operational temperature, water content variation.
