Field analysis in the structure of dual gap electromagnetic actuators

Abstract

The paper presents a method for conception and design of electromagnetic actuators, considering a new type of the magnetic circuit architecture, known in the literature as dual gap configuration. As a difference versus the classical one, the new structure operation is based on an additional armature and a sequential operating mode. This makes possible the smoothing of the force variation, as a function of displacement and the increasing of efficiency for larger operating distances. The desired performances may be reached only by an optimization process of the magnetic circuit geometry. In order to validate the presented strategy, it is used a simple two dimension model which is analyzed by numerical simulation, using a field computation program, based on the Finite Element Method.
